A new dark-saddled species of Hypostomus (Siluriformes: Loricariidae) from the upper rio Paraguay basin Neotropical Ichthyology
Zawadzki,Cláudio Henrique; Weber,Claude; Pavanelli,Carla Simone.
A new Hypostomus species is described from the rio Cuiabá, upper rio Paraguay basin, Mato Grosso State, Brazil. The new species is distinguished from all other Hypostomus species, with exception of young specimens of H. latifrons, by the presence of a wide dark transverse bars on laterals of body and fins; and conspicuous dark vermiculations on abdominal region. From H. latifrons it differs by having just one pre-dorsal plate surrounding supraoccipital bone and by the maintenance of the dark saddles in adults. Added to the other fish species recently described from the upper rio Paraguay basin, this work helps to highlight that the region still functions as a potential source of new species.

Biochemical taxonomy of Crenicichla (Pisces: Perciformes: Cichlidae) of the Iguaçu River, Brazil BABT
Renesto,Erasmo; Zawadzki,Cláudio Henrique; Revaldaves,Eloísa.
Samples of Crenicichla iguassuensis and a morph from the Iguaçu River which differed from C. iguassuensis by its lips morphology were examined by isozyme starch electrophoresis technique. The analysis of 27 enzyme loci exhibited a genetic identity of 0.993 between the two morphs. No diagnostic locus was found that permitted to distinguish the two Crenicichla morphs. The data obtained in this investigation did not support the existence of two distinct species for this genus in the Iguaçu River, which suggested that the morphs stood for two polymorphic forms of Crenicichla iguassuensis.

Checklist of the fishes from Jamari River basin, in areas under influence of dams, Rondônia, Brazil Biota Neotropica
Oliveira,Rianne Caroline de; Deprá,Gabriel de Carvalho; Zawadzki,Cláudio Henrique; Silva,João Carlos Barbosa da; Graça,Weferson Júnio da.
Abstract: The Madeira River is the most extensive tributary of the Amazon River and has the largest diversity of fishes in the world. On its right bank, the Madeira River receives the Jamari River, in which the first hydroelectric power plant (HPP) in State of Rondônia, Samuel HPP, was built. Besides this, other dams were built in the Jamari River and its tributaries, however, the available information in the scientific literature about the ichthyofaunistic diversity of this basin is rare. This work aims to provide an ichthyofaunistic inventory in a region of the Jamari river basin, in the State of Rondônia, where three small hydropower plants (SHPs) were implemented. The ichthyofauna was sampled in 16 expeditions between August 2015 and December 2018....

Coexistência entre Turdus leucomelas Vieillot, 1818 e Turdus rufiventris Vieillot, 1818 (Aves: Passeriformes) em um fragmento urbano de floresta com araucárias, Sul do Brasil Biota Neotropica
Vogel,Huilquer Francisco; Zawadzki,Cláudio Henrique; Metri,Rafael.

Genetic evidence for two species of the genus Pimelodus Lacépède, 1803 (Siluriformes, Pimelodidae) in the Iguaçu River (Brazil) Genet. Mol. Biol.
Renesto,Erasmo; Zawadzki,Cláudio Henrique; Revaldaves,Eloísa.
The existence of reproductive isolation between two morphs of catfish, endemic to the Iguaçu River (Brazil), was examined by enzyme starch gel electrophoresis. Tissues of 19 catfish (Pimelodus ortmanni) and 15 of a similar morph (Pimelodus sp.), which differs from P. ortmanni by presenting larger and more scattered dusky spots on its skin, were analyzed. A Nei's (1978) genetic identity of 0.551 was determined by the analysis of 22 enzyme loci. The loci EST*1, EST*2, GDH*1, GPI*1, GPI*2, IDH*1, MDH*1, MDH*2, and PGM*1 were fixed for different alleles in each morph, that is, no heterozygote was found for these loci. The enzymatic patterns observed for the two morphs indicate both that the taxa are reproductively isolated and that they in fact represent...

Genetic variability in three species of Gymnotus Linnaeus, 1758 (Gymnotiformes: Gymnotidae) from Caracu stream of the upper Paraná River basin, Brazil Neotropical Ichthyology
Rezende,Judy Ruiz; Renesto,Erasmo; Zawadzki,Cláudio Henrique.
The genetic variability of three Gymnotus species from the Caracu stream, a small tributary of the left margin of Paraná River (Brazilian upper Paraná River floodplain), was estimated with data of 17 putative allozyme loci, which were obtained by using corn starch gel electrophoresis of 10 enzymatic systems: Aspartate aminotransferase (E. C. 2.6.1.1), Alcohol dehydrogenase (E. C. 1.1.1.1), Esterase (E. C. 3.1.1.1), Glucose dehydrogenase (E. C. 1.1.1.118), Glycerol-3-phosphate dehydrogenase (E. C. 1.1.1.8), Isocitrate dehydrogenase (E. C. 1.1.1.42), L-Lactate dehydrogenase (E. C. 1.1.1.27), Malate dehydrogenase (E. C. 1.1.1.37), Superoxide dismutase (E. C. 1.15.1.1) and Sorbitol dehydrogenase (E. C. 1.1.1.14). The genetic diversity was estimated as He =...

Genetic variability of Hypostomus (Teleostei, Loricariidae) from the Ribeirão Maringá, a stream of the upper Rio Paraná basin, Brazil Genet. Mol. Biol.
Paiva,Suzana de; Renesto,Erasmo; Zawadzki,Cláudio Henrique.
Hypostomus strigaticeps and two morphotypes of Hypostomus were collected from Ribeirão Maringá, a small tributary of the Rio Pirapó, an effluent of the upper Rio Paraná. The three populations were analyzed by allozyme electrophoresis that allowed the scoring of 25 loci from 14 enzyme systems. Heterozygosity values (He) were 0.028 in H. strigaticeps, 0.027 in Hypostomus sp. 1 and zero in Hypostomus sp. 2. Several diagnostic loci and fixed differences were observed for each population at loci Acp-A, Gcdh-A and Mdhp-A. Thus, all populations were genetically distinct, although there were many common alleles. The unbiased genetic identities of Nei (I) were estimated as 0.780 for Hypostomus sp. 1 and H. strigaticeps, 0.357 for H. strigaticeps and Hypostomus sp....

Occurrence of thrushes in an urban fragment of Araucaria forest in southern Brazil Biota Neotropica
Vogel,Huilquer Francisco; Zawadzki,Cláudio Henrique; Metri,Rafael.
Seasonal segregation among syntopic species can be viewed as one of the available strategies for coexistence, reducing competitive process. The present work therefore aimed to interpret the assemblage structures comprising birds of the genus Turdus (Turdidae), through the analysis of seasonal variation in the species occurrence in a forest remnant located in the southcenter State of Paraná. Mist-netting was employed twice a month for capturing birds, totalling an annual effort of 7488 h.m². The frequency of occurrence, constancy and class of species dominance was determined, together with the parameters generally used in studies of ecological communities (richness, abundance, diversity and evenness). A total of 162 individuals were captured, representing...
